Daniels Sharpsmart Canada Ltd. (DSCL) is a privately owned company who provide a complete direct sharps service to the USA, Canada, South Africa, UK and New Zealand markets, with services including the provision of the Daniels Sharpsmart System (collectors, accessories and washers), transportation of medical and sharps waste, and treatment and disposal of medical waste.  DSCL also mines surgical sharps collectors for sale of re-usable medical devices.

Responsibilities

Production Associates (internally known as Washsmart Operators) are responsible for Operating & Cleaning the Washsmart machine. This includes scanning & loading wash containers onto the belt, ensuring the machine is operating properly (checking computer error codes & correcting), as well as removing clean containers, inspecting, drying and perform a final quality check. The Washsmart Operator will inform the Manager on shift immediately of any issues, and ensure that containers are processed on a first in – first out (FIFO) basis. The Washsmart Operator will also ensure all manifest paperwork is completed accurately and on-time. This individual will work on an afternoon shift, and must be comfortable working overtime as required by demands of the business and in accordance with the applicable Employment Standards Act.

 

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Diagnose and repair any and all mechanical issues as they arise, communicate issues as they occur to Team Leader/Supervisor.
  • Adjust equipment controls to maintain specified heat, tension, and speed
  • Observe display screens, control panels, equipment, and cloth entering or exiting processes to determine if equipment is operating correctly
  • Load / unload production line of light weight sharps containers on conveyor system for scanning in the washsmart system
  • Accurately complete and maintain all paperwork (manifests); scan waste into the washsmart system for proper record keeping purposes; fill outbound orders
  • Inspect cleaned containers before loading onto assigned vehicle for re-use distribution
  • Follow all health and safety requirements including wearing personal PPE and attending safety meetings
  • Keep operations coming on-shift briefed on what has happened and what is supposed to be done during the next shift
  • General housekeeping issues
  • Carry-out all cleaning and maintenance of the Washsmart as per the Preventative Maintenance plan
  • Conduct basic cleaning and maintenance of the Washsmart
  • Decontaminate vehicle's cargo-carrying portion (transporter), reload assigned re-usable containers and ensures Transporter is not contaiminated with dirt, dust, debris or liquids.
  • Drive forklift or operate hand trucks once properly trained

Qualifications

Physical Requirements:

  • Occasionally working in confined spaces
  • Repetitive lifting, walking, bending, and pushing
  • Must be able to lift up to 55 pounds and push and/or pull carts weighing as much as 300 pounds
  • Occasionally bending, twisting, and turning while lifting weights of less than fifty (50) pounds
  • Standing for extended periods of time

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED)
  • Analytically minded to troubleshoot fault codes and troubleshoot issues
  • Experience working in plant, production/process environment
  • Solid work references and good attendance history
  • Must be willing to undergo all pre-employment tests to determine suitability for the job
  • Honest & reliable
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Can do attitude
  • Ability to work weekends, holidays or flex hours as needed by production demands
  • Mechanical background preferred
  • Knowledge of Hazardous Materials and OSHA Regulations preferred
